COLLEGE RECRUITING

D1, D2, D3, IVIES, BIG STATE UNIVERSITIES, SMALL PRIVATE COLLEGES – WHAT’S YOUR DREAM?
After more than 25 years in golf, and 12 as a college golf coach, Sam Puryear has developed an approach to helping talented golfers prepare for and play at the college level. And yes – it can happen. With the right skill level, grades and determination, young golfers can go on to play golf at the school of their dreams. Sam has developed a college recruiting program to help identify, guide and consult with golfers and their families to help try to get students where they want to go — and be realistic at the same time. High school golfers can enter our program at any time during 8th grade through their high school years. As you already know, preparing for college athletics involves more than just practicing putts and working on swing techniques. You need a wholistic approach. So our program includes:

An Evaluation

An honest appraisal of where a golfer is in his or her game.

A Gameplan

We start with golfers where they are. And we work from there. We’ll be honest — not every golfer is ready to play at the college level. But what we can do is work on skills, focus on academics, strengthen confidence on the course and get golfers working towards achieving their maximum potential.

TOURNAMENT SELECTION

Getting seen and remaining visible as a prospect for college coaches is critical. Sam will help golfers and their families choose a mix of tournaments and let coaches know where they can be seen next.

HELP WITH DRAFTING LETTERS TO COLLEGE COACHES

Sam can help students draft letters to college coaches while following all NCAA guidelines. We’ll walk you through the process and show you the best way to highlight your strengths.

HELPING PLAN COLLEGE VISITS

Sam’s knowledge of the college golf world makes this a particular strength for Puryear Golf. Sam’s understanding of NCAA golf rules can help guide students and parents to make smart decisions.

UBER FOCUS ON ACADEMICS

Academics matter in the college golf recruiting game. Great golfers will have trouble surviving the demands of a college curriculum if they are not academically prepared. Sam will help advise athletes and their families on academic success.

ACT, SAT and SAT SUBJECT TEST SUPPORT

High scores on the ACT or SAT, in many cases, can determine a high school students ability to play at the college level. Puryear Golf has resources for tutoring, time management, developing a study timeline and more.

GETTING GAME READY: FITNESS, STRENGTH AND WELL BEING

Nutrition, fitness, strength and even sleep can greatly effect a golfers ability to perform on the golf course and in an academic setting. Sam helps athletes see the big picture.

VIDEO ANALYSIS

Sam uses video analysis to help players take their games to the next level. Sam will tell players what should, and shouldn’t be, in a golf video designed for recruiting.

ACCESS TO TRACKMAN CERTIFIED FACILITIES WHERE AVAILABLE

Puryear Golf partners with certified Trackman facilities to provide statistics for analysis. Trackman certified facilities are available in many cities in the US. We also work with our international students to find available certified locations.

EDUCATING STUDENTS ON DEVELOPING THE RIGHT MENTAL ATTITUDE

Puryear Golf helps college recruits mentally prepare for tournament play. Anger, stress, frustration and a lack of confidence on the golf course can hold players back from reaching their highest potential. Sam works with players to create mental routines that lead to greater focus and a sense of calm throughout the round.

ACCESS TO OUR PREFERRED CLUB FITTERS

Puryear Golf works with a select group of club fitters to ensure that top high school players have the ideal equipment to support their game.

Commitment to NCAA Compliance: Puryear Golf is fully compliant with all NCAA rules and regulations. Our Premium Annual Program does not in any way guarantee a student athlete will be accepted into a college, play golf for a college or receive scholarship money.

Sam Puryear came to Michigan State in the fall of 2007 and I was not sure what to expect. Sam made it very clear to everyone that the MSU golf attitude was going to take a different approach. A quiet belief followed Coach Puryear to work everyday and by the end of the season, he had us all convinced that winning was the only option. My final season was my finest as a Spartan in terms of individual performance.

Furthermore, the year culminated with a Big Ten Team Championship as well. Sam also made me a believer in the power of the mind and how it related to my golf scores. I learned that distracting the mind during a round of golf actually improved my performance significantly by allowing my subconscious athletic ability to shine through. Additionally, Coach Puryear convinced me to believe in myself in the classroom as he motivated me to strive for academic excellence. He did this with all of the players. My senior season proved to be my highest GPA in four years at MSU, just missing out on academic All-American status by two tenths of 1 percent.

Coach Puryear impacted my life in many positive ways as a golfer and a man. Because of Sam, I have many more skills that I use in the game of life and the game of golf each and everyday. I hope to continue my friendship for many years to come.
